چکیده

An enhanced real-time virtual graphical and haptic environment used in a medical training simulator is presented in this paper. The medical simulator is a training simulator for urological minimally invasive operations, and consists of a five-dof haptic device, the virtual graphical and force environment, and the control system. All parts of the simulator are described in detail. A real-time graphical representation of the male urethra during the insertion of an endoscope is developed. Smooth urethra deformations are produced by a mesh of piecewise Bézier interpolations, while its inner wall is simulated by realistic tissue textures. Efficient realtime techniques are developed. A novel particle-based model computes in real-time the forces fed to the haptic device. A 13 fps refresh rate is achieved on a 2 GHz computer with the depth-of-field effect activated, while the rate is doubled to 26 fps with this feature disabled. It is expected that such a simulator will contribute to an ethical, efficient, and modern surgeon training.

Soft Tissue Modeling Using ANFIS for Training Diagnosis of Breast Cancer in Haptic Simulator

Soft tissue modeling for the creation of a haptic simulator for training medical skills has been the focus of many attempts up to now. In soft tissue modeling the most important parameter considered is its being real-time, as well as its accuracy and sensitivity. In this paper, ANFIS approach is used to present a nonlinear model for soft tissue. The required data for training the neuro-fuzzy mo...

Haptic and Visual Simulation of a Material Cutting Process A Study Focused on Bone Surgery and the Use of Simulators for Education and Training

A prototype of a haptic and virtual reality simulator has been developed for simulation of the bone milling and material removal process occurring in several operations, e.g. temporal bone surgery or dental milling. The milling phase of an operation is difficult, safety critical and very time consuming. Reduction of operation time by only a few percent would in the long run save society large e...
